An awareness programme with the landowners of 12 Mer was conducted on 14 November 2025 in the presence of the Headman and the Environment Manager from the SPMU. The session began with a briefing on the importance of environmental conservation, emphasising the role of clean air, water, and healthy ecosystems in sustaining human life. This was followed by an explanation of the plantation activities under the project, including the various initiatives and support that will be extended to the landowners.

During the interactive discussion, landowners raised several queries related to land ownership, the signing of agreements, and the types of saplings to be distributed. Some participants also expressed interest in planting fruit-bearing species such as guava, bayberry, and other fruit trees.

After a detailed dialogue, the landowners showed strong interest and willingness to participate in the plantation activities. They also expressed readiness to share the information with other landowners and villagers who were unable to attend, ensuring that more households can benefit from the initiative. The participants conveyed their commitment to collaborate with the Committee for the betterment of their environment and the Wah Umiew watershed, noting the significance of their village’s location along the Umiew River.
