On 28th January 2026, the Ganol-CMU team conducted a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercise at Old Harigaon Village under Rerapara Block. The village comprises 99 households, predominantly inhabited by the Koch community. The programme witnessed active participation from the Village Headman, VPIC Chairman and Vice-Chairman, VCF members, and other key stakeholders.
A range of PRA tools were employed during the exercise, including Social Mapping, Resource Mapping, Seasonal Calendar, Problem Ranking, SWOT Analysis, Historical Timeline, and a Transect Walk. The Resource Map revealed the presence of extensive scrub land suitable for plantation activities. The Ganol River flows adjacent to the village, and villagers currently access river water for drinking and domestic use by digging temporary holes in the sand. In addition, the village is equipped with JJM water pipe connections and ring wells. It was also observed that the village is located in a plain area with no natural springs.
