Field Visit for Assessment of Convergence-Based Interventions – Pomlakrai, Umiew (19 June 2026)

On 19 June 2026, the EKH CMU Engineering Team, along with the Technical Team from Mylliem Block, conducted a field visit to Pomlakrai, Umiew to assess the feasibility of implementing convergence-based interventions. As the area forms part of the origin and catchment of the Umiew River, it was identified as a priority site for watershed protection, water conservation, and ecosystem restoration. Potential interventions discussed included plantation and catchment restoration, construction of check dams and loose boulder structures, erosion control measures, eco-tourism and nature-based livelihood promotion, and watershed and spring conservation. The team observed that the site has strong potential for integrated development that would enhance environmental sustainability and improve local livelihoods while advancing the objectives of the MegARISE Project. It was agreed to undertake a detailed feasibility assessment and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR), with plans and estimates to be jointly developed by the Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer of Mylliem Block. A comprehensive blueprint will be prepared adopting a holistic approach to catchment protection, ecological restoration, and livelihood enhancement.
